Darren Farris is an artist who creates large scale paintings of fractures in the earth. His work is about the beauty and potential that can be found when things fall apart. He collects inspiration from travels to national parks and creates paintings from his studio in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

A red flag is a mindset… is generated by someone else. I think that’s a problem we face in this world today where we categorize, homogenized, and make assumptions, and typically based on what other people have told us. Where is the adventure? How do you learn your limits Not the limits of someone else.? Red flag art looks at the moment that your comfort zone… Red flag art examines the moment you step out of your comfort zone. Red Flag Art looks at the moments just before you step out of your comfort zone. The decisions you make, the cracks, fishers instability it brings. What does it feel like when you are at these moments? When you are about to break free? When you’re about to try something new? When you’re at the edge of what you believe are your limits?

Red Flags are about Risk and tolerance. It’s about trusting yourself in a situation, at the edge of a comfort zone. Trusting yourself to do the hard things. That’s where life happens. At the edges.

Red Flag Art explores thresholds and forces upon them. Places where some people experience warning, and others welcome. Living systems under pressure, where every edge, every fracture, is a conversation between the wind, gravity, and time.
