Edges of Change
My work leans on the edges, the boundaries where change becomes evident.
The cliffs I paint are failing in real time: eroding, cracking, shedding, deconstructing themselves, all while trees grow and wildlife finds shelter. That is not ruin. It's opportunity. A red flag represents an edge. What happens when we push boundaries? What happens when boundaries fall apart?
Red Flag Art is built on the distinction between caution and courage. When the red flag is raised I choose a path not blind to the risk, but fluent in its power.

Methods
My paintings do not seek to present a traditional landscape but rather, capture the forces that shape the landscape and the textures they reveal. These painted sculptural canvases are brought to life through layers of building, scraping, excavating and revealing which give the paintings the feeling of time and geological forces at play.
Thick applications of oil paint are applied using palette knives to create layered ridges, fractured planes, and heavily textured surfaces. Generous use of impasto is builds a contrast where paint has been scraped away, exposing earlier layers and allowing the history of the painting to reveal itself.
My work is about the natural freedom of living with intention. Let your systems break. That’s where beauty lives.
